Rough drafting
Final draft
I spent a lot more time drafting this project than I usually do and I’m happy with the results. I started out drafting with the reference pictures of ballerinas but my original draft had a very long torso. It did not look bad but it was not what I was going for. After sketching her out I used an ink pen to solidify the figure, from there I experimented with rubber cement and loose glitter for her dress. After the dress I used purple watercolor paint for the background.
For the final draft I took a more subdued approach. I sketched out the figure from the same reference photos as before but I didn’t use an ink pen to finalize the design, instead I used colored pencil for her dress and shoes and the used water color for the rest of the piece. I used a blue watercolor for the background to convey a sense of calm and serenity that is expressed in her effortless pose.
When it comes to improvements regarding the rough draft and the final draft I think that my proportions are so much better in my final draft, as well as the soft and fluffy tutu.
Regarding things I could work on I believe that if I focus on my brush strokes and use colored pencil in addition to the watercolor I could achieve some really dynamic stuff.
