My first round of paint was way too dark and I’m going to have to pick a different color for the drips because the gradient from red to purple is really nice and what I wanted to do.
I have not been there as much as I should lately because I have had appointments with a neurologist because I have had headaches and migraines for more than a year and it’s really problematic, I believe I will be back very soon and I’ll be able to pick a color other than black for my drips. I’m thinking white or a bright blue or maybe grey.
Right now I do not have a white gel pen because I left it at home but my piece uses blue and red gradients as contrast and the drips are outlined in white because the colors got too jumbled and mixed together in the background. I chose a piece of Cyprus wood because originally I thought I may carve the wood and Cyprus is soft but I didn’t have the right tools at school and I was already a little behind so I had to jump right in. Instead of using strictly geometric shapes I used a dripping pattern and bright gradients on dark backgrounds. I used acrylic paint and my colors are a little more muted than I wanted them to be. (Edit) I took it home and used the white gel pen and I will add a picture but I also really don’t like the new Behance format. My concentration has to do with the contrast between geometric shapes and the forms and shapes in nature. All of the pieces I have done have been done on branches or leaves or other pieces of nature, I did this because I wanted to show how mankind and society differ from the natural earth but I also wanted to show that they can work together without overpowering one another. In my most recent piece I covered the whole trunk in paint to sort of symbolize how we as a race are choking out/overpowering nature and its course as well as it’s future. Humans as a species tend to think about the short term before they evaluate the long term which causes destruction of natural resources. The trunk came from a tree that was cut down on my property around my pond so that we could see the pond and access it. This represents the short term thought which caused it to be cut down in the first place, but if we had let that tree grow it would be producing oxygen and helping to clean the planet. I’m very proud of my piece and the drips of black but if I were to do it again I would have chosen a color lighter than purple to color the base so that the drips stand out more.
I have done the white gel pen! Yay, I don’t know how to move the order of my pictures though and it’s bothering me.
