Germies

Germies is a fun and interactive game which teaches young children on the importance of hand washing and where germs can be found. It's a collaborative project between 5 first year students who were given a brief to 'better explain something to a specific audience'.

We agreed that there isn't enough emphasis on hand washing within education. You remember learning to ride a bike and learning to read and write but, how many of us can remember our hand washing education? This is where Germies comes into action.

Our initial research looked at ways we could teach children how to wash their hands however, after visiting a school we found that children were aware of this yet how germs can be spread and be acquired needed much more emphasis. We began developing a teaching pack for use within the classroom and a mini pack to be taken home by the children to use with their family.

Our Characters were inspired by drawings by children on what they thought 'germs' would look like.

Germies encourages children to explore the classroom and find stickers set by the teacher. For each sticker found, the children can watch it come to life and learn more about it's fact file. Once all the Germie characters have been found, a hand washing mini game is launched to show children that it's okay to find these germs, but its VERY important to wash their hands afterwards. Children are then provided with trading cards and more stickers to continue the Germie journey at home and reinforce that germs really are everywhere.
