Sounds of India
Team: Manasi Mankad, Ankit Bansod, Rohit Gupta
India—the land of variety, the land of culture. How do you capture India’s essence? By our people, our music, our prayers, our conflicts. Blessed with a multitude of sensory delights that Indians experience every day of their lives but hardly notice due to the humdrum of their daily routine. The motivation behind the project was to explore the sensory dynamics of typical Indian sounds that make us who we are. The project involved manually recording sound clips from a variety of places and capturing different moments, voices, phrases and sounds that are very unique to Indian way of living. The user will be taken on a journey through storytelling with sounds that were captured across many places.
The project extended to a web based interface that plays sounds as people interact with it. The sounds are crowdsourced, which creates a more diverse sample set for the users to experience.

We experimented with the following:
1. Binaural Recording
2. Storytelling with sound
3. Spatial augmentation of sound using 3 axis sensors and openAL
4. Geospatial Mapping of Sound (prototyped using processing and implemented using MapBox)
Telling a story with just sounds
Taking it forward
We explored the experience of the story with respect to the person's head movement. The exploration was done using Arduino.
