The series of wall murals was painted on Kdei Run Primary School in SiemReap, Cambodia as part of my Overseas Community Service Trip with Touchyour Heart Committee of NanyangTechnological University, Hall of Residence Five.

The series of murals were developed and executed within a shortspan of three days. The bulk of thework prior to the murals were spent on repainting the school, the murals were additions to it, meant to beautify the place but not intrude it. Limited resources were utilized so as not to have anyexcessive wastage.

The lotuses were inspired by the lotuspond in front of the school. Lotuses bare significance to the people who are generally Buddhists; it symbolises purity, like the minds ofour little ones.

Process

Removal of old paint with a scraper

The little ones became aware of our efforts and began cleaning the windows, taken more ownership of their school.

Lots of love while executing the project. A fresh coat of white paint is given to the interiors of the classrooms as well.

Filling the pencil outlines with colours

Day off from painting, Yamuna & I taught the kids to make hand puppets

Finishing up the project by scraping off paint drips from the floors. Here, the entire school can be seen helping up with our work. The efforts had all been worth while.
