Kz [kez] is a brand I created in 2012 for a range of organic face and body care products. I built a custom ligature based on the font Foco, chosen for it's clean, flowing feel. I tied this with a droplet motif to reflect the range's strong focus on pure, unique essential oil blends. The first product is a coconut, lime, salt, and sugar body scrub titled Sweet Salty Sour. Modelling, particles, texturing and rendering was done in Modo and artwork in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. All texturing other than labelling is done with 100% Modo procedurals. 

The solution involved separating shaders and geometry to create the desired look rather than a strictly correct physical setup. This was due to limitations with the Modo renderer and being impractical to fill a jar with replicated salt and sugar particles and maintain reasonable render times. The salt mix is a separate mesh sitting inside the oil. The oil is a simple material with absorption and a procedural controlling transparent amount, this gives me the dark cloudy green bits. Then I used a replicator to put bubbles through it. The salt mesh is set in slightly from the liquid, enough to allow the bubbles space but not too much that you can see the gap, and a bigger gap from the top where it settles out. The salt is a Modo procedural texture used for driving displacement, SSS colour and amount with some additional procedurals on top to create pinkish salt crystals and cloudy green parts.
