This illustration series features 25 city shared bikes from all around the world 🚲.

Living in Paris, we like to cycle on Vélib' bikes every now and then. For work to small errands and scenic rides, the city bike share scheme is becoming quite popular for Parisians and tourists. 

In summer 2016, we asked ourselves "Does it exist elsewhere?"

This is how we ended up spending our spare time searching the web for other local systems around the world — and eventually illustrate 25 of our favorite.

At the time, we found only few information sources addressing bike sharing globally. Whenever possible, we looked for references of existing systems. This step required rounds of proofchecking to collect accurate work material.

We ended up with a bunch of bikes of many colors and shapes, whereas some were close to lookalikes. We began sketching, exploring various design concepts.

 

We envisioned a design where bikes could easily be singled out or grouped together for print, eg. on a poster or a tote bag.

We eventually came up with something warm, multicolor, as if inks were fading in the sun. A composition of 25 bikes riding the streets in a summer breeze.
