UX re-design of the leading database monitoring app

Re-design of the world’s leading scale-out SQL database monitoring and maintenance application
Client World’s leading scale-out SQL database for e-commerce sites

Project description Re-design of the world’s leading scale-out SQL database monitoring and maintenance application for a Series D company funded by marquee investors like Sequoia Capital and US Venture Partners

Objective The customer wanted to move from a managed to a self-managed infrastructure with a major upgrade

Process As the lead designer, I have been working closely with the chief architect of the product since four months. Starting with the strengths and weaknesses of the current application and the competitive landscape, we went through numerous interactive sessions with key stakeholders from engineering, marketing and support teams. Through this, I acquired an in-depth understanding of the technology to be able to design for it.
We focused on user-centered design targeting the needs, technical capability and reporting requirements of users in different levels of the organization. This made it a challenging design problem because the underlying product is based on complex technology.  We are attempting to create a discoverable user interface so users can unravel product complexity as they go. We also defined a long-term design that will form part of future product evolution. The development was underway when I completed the project.
