The problem: The Bo-Kaap Museum showcases local Islamic culture and heritage. However, the colourful neighbourhood is under threat of gentrification and is undergoing a slow dissolution, as it’s unique identity and history could be lost if this were to continue.
The solution: To educate local Capetonians and celebrate the local Islamic community. The concept, Bo-Kaap Matters, is about evoking locals to engage with the Bo-Kaap culture and history. The Bo-Kaap Matters project has three points of contact - posters, a microsite and alternative street signage - making it easier for Capetonians to learn more about the neighbourhood and its community.
