Through my work for Chisl Design—a student run design consultancy—I more fully recognize the potential of design thinking in solving local problems. Last semester, my interdisciplinary team—comprising of business and design students—sought to work with local startups to increase their visibility on campus. My role was to aid with the visual identity and website design for Sage and Grace—an Ann Arbor startup. Working with a developing company was extremely rewarding since I was able to channel the founder’s brand aspirations through my design capabilities. The founder—Holly—wanted the brand to embody professionalism but also wanted the brand to seem accessible to potential customers. I wanted to strike a medium between these two qualities by using modern, clean typography and maintaining a minimalistic color palette.
