Pounikko - Interactive textile surface

Pounikko is an interactive textile surface. It reacts to the amount of light surrounding it by brightening or dimming and changing the colors of the LED-lights integrated to the surface. It's operated with Arduino Uno and gathers the data from a light resistor.

The surface is inspired by the colorful moss floor of northern pine forests. I wove the tapestry surface myself using tricot wefts which are surplus material of clothing factories, home-cut fabric strip wefts from flea market, and a yarn made of fast-growing jute. I wrote the code for the LED-lights by tweaking a code from Adafruit's photocell tutorial. The LED-lights and the photoresistor are connected to Arduino with conductive thread. The prototype surface is a bench and sitting on it creates a change in the lights of the surface.
