Korundi - House of Culture

Pattern collection for Korundi - House of Culture

Korundi is the home of both Rovaniemi Art Museum and the Lapland Chamber Orchestra. Korundi shop sells a selection of high-quality products from local designers and makers, but didn't have products of its own.  I designed a collection of three patterns to use in stationary products and jacquard woven home textiles. I also prepared the files and wove the samples of the jacquard fabrics with a TC1 jacquard loom myself.

I designed the three patterns to fit the existing visual identity of Korundi. The patterns were inspired by the rich history of the building - the art museum and the concert hall are built around and old red brick building which was first built in 1933 and after WWII expanded using bricks from  buildings destroyed due to war. The bricks carry marks of fire and the building has served in many uses before becoming a House of Culture in 2011. Culture is the heart of Korundi and the abstract patterns remind the viewer about the rhythm of music, painting and traditional handicrafts.
