When I was a child I loved to wander in the forests, lay on the soft moss and watch the trees above dance in the wind. Every year before the first snow the forest floor gets a delicate ice frosting. By stepping to the moss you leave a mark of your path to the ground.

The hand-woven upholstery of the Moss Stone is inspired by the colourful moss carpets of northern forests. The interactive bench invites visitors to rest and explore its haptic texture.

The tapestry surface gets its inspiration from the colorful mosses of northern forests and wetlands. The materials have been chosen keeping ecological aspects in mind. The t-shirt yarn sponsored by Lankava is a surplus material from clothing industry and the LP boucle yarn is made using 80% of recycled materials. The plastic from Lapin muovi is surplus material from their Rovaniemi factory. The holographic effect thread, bright yellow paper yarn and the deep green yarn made of fast-growing and soil rehabilitating jute add a finishing touch to the surface texture. The hidden LED lights integrated to the textile surface delicately flicker when the pressure sensor on top of the seat is activated.

Moss Stone is part of Vaana 2017, an interactive representation of arctic nature’s rough beauty through the medium of design. Vaana was showcased in Ventura Lambrate exhibition during Milan Design Week 2017 and it will be seen also in Habitare 2017 in Helsinki.
