047 is an electronic pop duo based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Originally they were aclaimed chip tune musicians but after taking their sound in a new direction they needed a new visual identity to reflect this development. They asked me to create their new visual identity along with concept artwork for their new album "&", and accompanying singles.
I wanted their new logo to be more than simply a wordmark of the numbers, but also relevant to the name rather than just adding a symbol. I was inspired by the often geometric shapes of vintage synthesizer graphics, in particular the symbols representing waveforms such as sinus, saw and square. The result is a symbol that can stand on its own and still read as "047" despite being a simple geometric icon.
For the album, named &, the duo collaborated with ten other musicians, all from other musical backgrounds than their own, to create ten tracks. The idea was to explore where their sound would go when each guest entered the studio to merge their own unique characteristics with those of 047. The result is an interesting collection of tracks that despite(or perhaps 'thanks to') their differences come together to create a very strong electronic pop album.
