Cucuta (Conium maculatum / Hemlock) is a rather misterious plant. In the trivial flower dictionary this white flower stands for “I shall die for/because of you”. While alive and well attached into the soil, it holds a very strong poison (after all, it is believed to be the plant used for Socrates sentence and death), while after leaving the soil behind, dying and drying, it becomes an almost miraculous medicine for many ailments. It acts almost like love - bringing out the worst while alive and strangely making one stronger once it has faded away.
It is a wild plant, growing as wide as it pleases and the soil allows, and later on drying into a mummified form, as if it were alive still; a simulation akin to how we perpetuate our hidden desires and fears, is it not?
There is a place in a far out corner of the city, where an old factory used to stand. These days, only fragments of walls remain, in a sea of flowers and plants coming out of any small crack in the concrete. Cucuta reigns the ground there, one could almost get lost in its midst. One could easily hide in there, like a child would, from the mature Other and only rocks would keep him company, like a vestigial Other, all covered in white deadly flowers.
