Biodiversity is Us - is the new campaign of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) that encourages everyone to take action and to protect the biodiversity around the globe. The information on how anyone can do something is communicated through a mobile app, videos, social media and adverts in the participating zoos and aquariums.

I was responsible for adapting the graphical information about the "Biodiversity Is Us" -campaign into the Korkasaari Zoo. We wanted big posters and high visual impact, whilest still keeping in mind the sometimes challenging weather conditions of the island. And the campaign posters would also be there for about five years, so the design needed to be lasting.
Therefore, we couldn’t keep the crisp white background of the campaign as it might get lost in the white snowy background of the island during winters and also get dirty pretty quickly. We also needed to adapt the material we were given into the sizes that work best for us and figure out the placing of the pieces so that they would be a natural part of the Zoos information materials and still stand out.
The biggest poster of the campaign is the eagle poster just around the corner from the Steller's sea eagles in the Zoo.
The solution for the background color was to go with one of the other campaign colors. The orange was selected based on it's visibility on the island and for the fact that it complimented the other campaign colors used in the texts.
The materials were translated to Finnish in order to make the message of the campaign as clear as it could for the local visitors. There are some posters that have the text also in English in order to serve the international visitors. But the smaller posters are kept neat and simple with just one language.
From the image materials we selected some of the animals that fit together with Korkeasaari Zoos ideology and the current inhabitants of the Zoo.
One of the best situated posters we came up with were the posters under every map in the information points. The fittings were already there and this would be a sure point where the poster could be looked at a bit more closely and it pops out well with the mostly blue map above it. Also, the image varies so that not every map has the same image under it.
