The Division for Looted Art

The logo and line of gadgets—pins, stickers, posters and iron-on transfers for t-shirts—were created for a publicity campaign dedicated to wartime losses organised by The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has chosen several missing objects of art to create publicity for the cause of recovering them.

The leitmotif of the design is a white rectangular strip covering the eyes on the portraits—
a disquieting reference to press materials about crime victims or something that is erased. The white rectangle—which can be interpreted as a missing brick—is used as an abstract pattern on the gadgets. The logo has some of the letters striked out. The rough paper used for the poster was an important design choice. It gives an impression of old, pre-war reproductions. The poster serves as the packaging for an iron-on transfer.
