Project Description

Variation with Confrontational Terms
Creating vital and abundant variation out of a simplified idea is one of the key points of design process - it is the logical basis for further development or permanent decision making. Variation involves alteration and expanding. It may be only fraction of almost unlimited possibilities of materializing an idea, but through making variations, its possible to explore and evaluate variety of ways of understanding of design concept, and develop own design method.

Confrontational Terms - Centre/ Edge
Images below show the final selection of designs that resulted from the given confrontational terms. My goal was to make the terms as understandable, minimal and clear as possible by using fundamental visual elements; point, line and letters. Design principles and elements such as scale, arrangement, form, counter-form, proportion, emphasis, eye tracking, contrast & typographic styles were the basis of this design output.
Book Design
Book design process is an integrative process of conceptual thinking, reasonable selection of material, logical decision-making and up to binding technique. It offers a chance to understand the raw image and text material as significant component which is arranged in a systematic and logical way.

The book follows the concept of symmetry in  selection and arrangement of images. The first section starts with point followed by line and then letters. The middle spread acts as a centre to the book and line of symmetry to the sequence of images. The second part of the book starts with letters then line and ending with point. Arrangement of images is based on the way images interact with one another on a spread (facing pages) and alternative pages (turning pages). In the first half of the book, images on right create a simple rhythm that directs the eye towards the edge. While in the second half, images on the left pages focus on centre.

Dust jacket reflects what pages represent. It shows the three elements; point, line & letters and translates the confrontational terms visually on the outside.
