Hearing is Seeing

Project Description
Hearing is Seeing is an exploration in finding a visual solution depicting the outcome twisting from the connection between two senses; hearing and seeing.

In three step process, sound is taken as a standalone entity as the subject of visualisation. Along with that any tool is used as a medium to show a particular sound. Visual texture is then experimented with to reverse this process; a sketch is associated to one or multiple sounds. The final output is an expression of a specific sound through visual texture.

The goal is to have an on-going project where the output rarely be considered final result. For this, a system of folding and elastic binding is constructed where additions and subtraction within the book is possible. The book is divided in three section; two for sounds and one for the process.  Relationship of text and image is dependent on the onlooker, there is no strict order regarding images sequence. This further breaks the linearity of a traditional book format because subjectivity of images is influenced by individuals' perception of senses. Use of three colours (black, white & grey) throughout the publication reflect sounds changing from background to primary when focused on.
