Sacred letters
Sacred Letters is an exploration of synthesis between Islamic geometric patterns and Arabic alphabet. Islamic Geometric Patterns (IGP) with their hypnotising and puzzle-like quality are combined with legible and functional aspects of letters to explore the geometric ornamental aspect of letters. Deciphering the perfect amalgamation between mathematics and calligraphy became the starting point for Sacred Letters

From a plethora of polygons used as the basis of IGPs both isolated and in combinations, three were selected for this project; hexagon, octagon and dodecagon. Arabic letters, when broken down to their basic structure follow strict mathematical form, a rhombus. Sacred Letters presents the journey of each letter through de-construction of star shapes (IGP), analysis and re-construction of a letter. The spreads exhibit letters in their renewed forms; singular polygons and geometric patterns. This documentation is followed by a series of geometric letter posters to show the extend of patterns in life.
