LIGHTHOUSE SEA HOTEL

SCALUNO
“Se vogliamo che tutto rimanga com'è, bisogna che tutto cambi.”
“If we want things to stay as they are, things will have to change.”
G. Tomasi di Lampedusa, The Leopard

In a flat piece of land, edge point of land and water, we place an object that enhances the horizontality of the surroundings. A stone slab fills the gaps between the existing buildings and is fragmentized into smaller parts following the existing alignments and creating views and openings towards the sea.
A great open air staircase forms the welcoming façade from the land enhancing, with its horizontal lines, the flatness of the new building and guiding the visitor to the roof terrace.
The visual rhythm of the steps recreates the natural process of light and shadow dictated from the passage of the sun on an irregular rocky surface that characterize the project site. This visual effect blends in the volumes of the new complex with the existing setting. The building becomes a podium towards the infinite scenery of the sea and the surrounding harsh landscape.
