Children's Book Publication

For this brief we wrote, illustrated and produced a children’s book. After being given the brief and the requirements, I researched different stories or subjects that inspired a story, and create illustrations that would compliment the story.
After generating ideas and looking at different story books, I decided to create a story that was based around the relationship between a 'monster' and their older sibling. Because this was such an open brief, I wanted to make some more personal for me. Since I've got an older sister, I found it very easy and fun to create a story.
I created the illustration and textured backround to suit the style of the story, the simple, but bold color palette contrasts with the white and black paint splatters. The style is child-like and playful, just like the story itself.
I have always found books with fold and lift-out sections to be more appealing, it's great to interact with the reader. So I wanted to have this present in my book too, so I created 2 fold-out sections, and there is also finger puppets inside the book.
Slightly embarrassing, but the inserted image on the publication page is actually my sister and I, (yep, I'm the nude one.) but I really did want to make this brief personal.
I ended up creating extra mock-ups for my family to keep, so guess they enjoyed it as much as I did enjoy making it!
