The bath house is located along the main river waterfront in Amsterdam. Nestled between historic brick buildings, Nevenschikking embraces the old world brick style construction, while distinguishing itself as a new gathering space and opening the landscape to new ideas. The bath house is designed with a variety of spaces for citizens of all ages.

The main staircase draws a direct connection to outside through the highly articulated facade. The materiality of the bottom floor anchors the building to the ground through the use of large rigid grey stones; and as the building moves up the materials become more refined, terminating in delicate brick and open sky lights. The first floor houses a cafe, drawing people in to explore the building, and interacting with the surrounding city. Once arriving on the second floor the dynamic mixed-use pool encourages the users to interact with the water, and with the members of the community. By placing the public pools in open spaces along the path of direct circulation with views to the outside, the spaces feel inviting and comforting. As the people move toward the back of the building, the spaces become more private, and end with therapy and massage rooms. Access to the smaller, more private pool rooms are hidden behind a semitransparent colorful glass wall, which guides the users to explore while providing privacy.
