Tamago (the Japanese word for Egg) is a set of 3D printed lacquerware that combines new technologies with the centuries old tradition of Japanese lacquer.
Traditionally lathe turned wooden objects are covered in Urushi lacquer, which restricts the possible shapes to symmetrical ones. 3D printing enables the shape of this cup and plate which seems to balance to one side. Tamago is designed to be used in both Mexican and Japanese drinking traditions, the portions of tequila or sake commonly served are roughly the same and the accompanying dish can be used for either lime and salt or the small servings of snacks common found on Izakaya (Japanese bars).
