REHAU + TUM + NTU. eBike to Rent
With increasing emphasis on mobility and flexibility, megacities are seeking out new solutions to mobility and transportation issues. Developing a fast, safe and reliable transportation system with minimal impact on our environment presents itself as one of the big challenges today. To overcome existing limits, future mobility should include intermodal solutions which combines different means of transportation effectively. EBike-To-Rent project presents one possible solution to the task of having an ebike sharing system for urban areas.

A collaborative project between TUM (Germany) and NTU (Singapore) with a team comprising of 6 Engineers and 2 Designers.

Process
Inspiration for this comes from the image of a bone, with its organic and unique form.
Originally inspired by the equine constitution, the bike design centers itself around exuding a feeling of stability, agility and power. With its form resembling that of a horse, symbols of power as early as the 4200 BCE, we wish to communicate the parallels between primitive horse chariots and eVe; Both as basic mode of transportation in their respective eras. By drawing on the abstracted form of the horse, we want our consumers to unconsciously equate the qualities associated with the horse to this bike. Hence, eVe was born.

Eve, being a product between the marriage of engineering and design, had its own constraints to adhere to. Our initial design form was more unpolished and there were staggering differences between what we envision and what constraints we had with engineering. At the same time, our design ideals for the dock was to make the bike and dock resemble as one single entity when charging. Therefore the dock curves were actually adapted from that of the bike. Marred by difficulties such as changes to the motor placement and the angle of the overall aluminum tubes, refinements had to be constantly made between the design team and the engineers with each proposing their take on the situation. An eventual compromise was reached and eVe emerged as the brainchild of this marriage.
