Toys for Boys : Toyota Corolla AE86 Initial D - Autoart

After the exotic Carrera GT, we present and review a true JDM legend. A double legend, in fact. It’s the Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno, made by Autoart, here represented in the “Initial D Legend 1” animation film “version”. Let’s deliver some tofu, shall we?

Miniature review

Mold

Absolutely flawless. The very boxy shape of the AE86 is perfectly represented by Autoart, its shutlines are narrow as narrow can be, everything is openable, including the headlights, and nothing feels flimsy or fragile. The usual quality standard for this brand, fortunately.

Details

We can’t help but love the red and brown interior, in true 80’s fashion and, since this is a special AE86, all the exclusive features of the Initial D car are there.

      - Cupholder with the magical glass of water that never spills? Check.
      - Watanabe wheels? Check.
      - The “Fujiwara Tofu Shop” lettering on the driver’s door? Check.
      - Box with tofu in the boot? Oh yes.

The only thing missing is Takumi! There are even some chromed wind deflectors on the side windows, with the “Trueno” logo, which is a very cool and period-correct detail. We also fell in love with the engine bay, where even the chassis plate and a stick to keep the bonnet open are present.

      Perfect, just perfect.

Build quality

Apart from the mold markings on the dashboard, there’s nothing negative to say, really. The lack of text in this part of the
review is proof of how good this model really is.

Value for money

It must be said that this model cost almost 80 euros less than the standard price, so our appreciation will be even better because of that. Such discount, with the irrefutable Autoart seal of quality, translates to one hell of a deal for any collector. If you’re a die-hard Initial D or AE86 fanboy, or both, this is a must-have. But good luck finding one.

Final Evaluation

      Such JDM, very dorifto, wow!

It’s easy to say some kind words regarding Autoart models, but some of them are still capable of taking our breath away. That is the case with this special AE86, who not only represents part of a very good anime, but an automotive icon in its own way. That is a rare combination.

The little details like the tofu box, the cupholder, the Tofu Shop lettering  or the Japanese numberplate, make for a very special model, one that if you can find at an exceptional price, you should undoubtedbly get. Believe us, if our photos aren’t enough.
