Millennials and Te Papa: The Archive

The brief for this project was to increase the number of millennial visitors to Te Papa, New Zealand's National Museum. In order to develop an appropriate solution, our team of three employed experience design and user centred design methods, ensuring that the user was kept at the centre of the process. These methods included user interviews, user research, rapid prototyping and workshops. The solution we developed was a proposal for an informal exhibition space titled the The Archive. It was proposed that the space would hold pop up exhibitions which change monthly, utilsing the over 500,000 artefacts in Te Papa’s collections. The pop up exhibition would be geographically themed and the space would hold workshops and events to further engage a millennial audience. This project was chosen to be presented to the Te Papa Board.
