MCAST Link Magazine
"MCASTLINK is the first corporate publication of its kind for MCAST. It aims to create and enhance a corporate identity for the College. It also serves as a means whereby MCAST’s ideas, achievements and developments are linked in one corporate publication. Staff, students and parents are also kept informed and updated on the events taking place at MCAST’s nine Institutes & Gozo Centre."
The inside layout features a lot of colour (photographic & illustrative) which was painfully missed in the actual magazine.
Different paper stocks were reviewed to balance the expenses in full colour printing. Replacing the garish extra glossy (and expensive) medium with a more humble, lightly textured paper, production costs were greatly reduced.
Sleeves were developed representing each of the different institutes. Each illustration also acts as an index for the issue.
The MCASTLINK features a (posed) student with every issue from a different college. The rigid student concept was re-invented through the sleeves, introducing a more dynamic selection of photography for the actual cover.
Printed on translucent paper, the sleeves protect the publication while slightly revealing the cover beneath.
A special feature was introduced to the MCASTLINK accommodating the graduate lists and speeches which would be normally occupy considerable space. This not only relieved the publication but created a commemorative token of the event.
The Student Feature follows a similar concept to the outside sleeve and cover.
Unlike the outer sleeves which have a fixed artwork for every institute, the illustrations presented in the student feature compliments the cover beneath it while still retaining the characteristics of the institute sleeve.
Due to the 'random' nature of the topics discussed, student features were treated as seperate inserts.
