Year 1 / The UFO Society

Branding

Brief: We were briefed to create the visual identity and business stationery for a fabricated society. The stationery had to include firstly a business card, a letter, an envelope, and lastly a compliment slip, however a logo was not permitted.

My chosen society was The UFO Society. The final visuals play on the mysteries that surround reports of UFO's and alien occurrences, but also create a narrative for the member (this is noted in the captions below). I achieved the mystical essence by using bluring and shades of black on black so the images used are difficult to view, but I also included an injection of a vivid, unmissable yellow to create a theatrical, playful sense of abduction. This also a created a recognisable colour scheme for the society, that mimics colours associated with UFO scenarios, in both in real, and fictional circumstances.

Business Cards

The branding is incorporated into the business cards by using the vivid yellow triangle below illustrated imagery of reported sightings of UFO's, which vary from card to card, giving a sense of individuality to each business card. This also offers the opportunity for newcomers to add their own sightings to the collection upon joining.
The narrative begins with the business cards, upon pulling the card from the sleeve, a small human figure and the societys name (representative of the viewer) is beamed up. On the reverse of the outer card is a small UFO cut-out noting the 'pull up' of the yellow inner card, once pulled up it reveals the words ‘Help uncover the truth’ with the society’s contact details.

Envelope / Letterhead

The envelope and letterhead incorporate a similar branding function. The narrative here responds to the member now being involved with the society and UFO's, as upon pulling the letter out, the human figured is beamed back down from the 'UFO'. The Envelope window has now become the area where the 'sighting' is noted, using the address as the fictional sighting point.
