High Line Art Museum

High Line Art Museum
New York City, NY
In this project our task was to create a marketable art museum complete with office space and storage for a permanent gallery as well as for exhibitions. The challenge for this project was to create such a moment with the New York High Line running twenty feet above and through the entire sight. The High Line is a retired railroad track that used to be used for shipping and has since become a public green walkway and park as you see in the renderings above.
In my design I incorporated a ramp system which leads to three separate "floating" galleries. The roof is structural space frame which allows for the entire ceiling to be glass brick which will allow light to fall gently to the surfaces of art without damaging effects. On the eastern side of the high line I put all of the administration offices and storage area so that the openness could truly be felt while in the museum. With a green roof the Administration half of the building allows an opportunity for a side park for pedestrians to use while enjoying the high line park.
