Soweto is a key project on the road to the 2010 FIFA World Cup and will see the delivery of a “first of its kind” legacy piece delivered to a local community. The Football Training Centre seeks to identify up and coming footballers aged between 16 and 20 years old and provide them with all the tools and skills to ensure that they become the best footballers that they can be. The facility has four football pitches, two of which are synthetic, Class II Stadium lighting; has a 1900m² Clubhouse that includes an enablement hall focused on equipping the footballer mentally using key Nike innovations and technology, a RED community care and education centre, Nike product trial area, gym, physio/first aid centre and also has administrative offices. It is at this facility that Nike has undertaken its football skills legacy programme that will see the enablement of 1,200 teams and 20,000 kids. The programme includes innovative and technologically advanced equipment and structurally upgraded facilities. Besides the state of the art facilities, the programme will include knowledge-sharing from world class athletes and coaches that will provide age-appropriate training
