The project consisted of constructing a new shell and core, 12-story office building in the dense Broadgate business district of London.  The project was Phase 2 of development efforts to build out an entire city block in this dense urban area.  Due to the close proximity of neighboring buildings, the new building's height and the shadows it cast were of significant concern.  As a result of intensive shadow studies and daylight modeling, the building takes a wedge-like form to allow light to reach occupants of surrounding buildings below.  Another primary driver in the project was a shared wintergarden between the existing Phase 1 building and the new Phase 2 building.  The space serves as an informal meeting place for occupants.
