Gato: Those Indie Moments

WARNING: This is an on-going collection of non-commercial projects you won't usually see in a portfolio... and for a good reason of course! A collection of those projects in which the director has to take the camera and do all the hard work by himself to achieve the goal of taking a project to the end despite the lack of even the minimal resources... just for the love of filmmaking! =)

Ecofilm: The cost of Consumerism
Credits: Creativity, Directing, Cinematography, Editing, Motion Graphics, Compositing, CC and Audio Design.
For ENGLISH Subtitles, make sure Closed Captions is enabled (CC). Or Disable if you want them gone.
The Project:

This is a personal no-budget project created to bring attention to the waste-management issue and offer simple solutions to the problem. The video was done in only seven days, from idea to postproduction, and recorded with a simple 720p DSLR and green fabric as chroma, using friends and family as talents.

The idea was simply to "draw the cost of our lifestyle through the eyes of the children", as a way of showing the problem our consumerism is leaving for the future generations, closing with some simple ideas to take action and diminish the damage.

Stephanie Ascencio: Inside the Factory
Credits: Filmmaking, Editing, Motion Graphics, Color Grading and Audio Design.
The Project:

Stephanie Ascencio is a shoe-making brand for women in México City that, as many others, had the need of advertising but lacked the resources to invest on it. In this project, the main goal was to create a video to promote their factory as a way of selling themselfs as a high-quality manufacturing option for other brands in the shoe-industry.

GrupoW: Memories
Credits: Filmmaking, Editing and Audio Design.
The Project:

A really personal project! This video was created as a farewell present to the Digital Agency "GrupoW" when my time to leave came. The video has a double purpose: to capture the essence of the agency by collecting all those moments we lived together during the year 2011 and that made us become a family by defeating all the challenges, and even natural disasters; and to reinforce the feeling of belonging in every member of the team.

Shortfilm: Quién Asesinó a Alicia?
Credits: Creativity, Screenwriting, Directing, Modelling, Mapping, Rigging, Animation, Editing and Audio Design
The Project:

CG shortfilm done in a time when I didn't have the resources to buy a decent camcorder... and all I had in hand was an old computer. The decision was simple: forget about live-footage and learn to do 3D animations... and if you don't know how, then google it! And that is how this project begins.

"¿Quién asesinó a Alicia?" (Who killed Alicia) is a no-budget personal project created as a response to the decriminalization of abortion campaign in Mexico. The purpose of the film is to take the abortion debate beyond the issue "right" or "wrong", trying to evidence all the actors who participate, directly or indirectly, in that decision: whether is family, friends, colleagues, or those who "don't even care".

The shortfilm was completely done in 3ds max, from modeling, mapping, rigging, animations, cameras, lighting and renders, with character rigs animated in MotionBuilder.
Tres Marías: Summer Camp
Credits: Filmmaking, Editing and Audio Design.
The Project:

A really really old run-like-crazy-behind-them project recorded in one day, which I still find very fun to watch. The project isn't color corrected and was recorded with an old DV Camcorder, which explains the black border that appeared when Vimeo changed the display format.

The main challenge of the project was to get involved in the kids activities and actually connect with them to create a childish-style video capturing the essence and fun of the summer camp... in just one day.

If you like the innocence of kids, and find yourself capable of turning off the "high-end production chip", I think you will really enjoy it... just relax and let it run!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And that's it! If you like any of these projects... then you still have a soul! =)

Thanks for watching!

My collection of no-budget, non-commercial projects done in the past years. Not recommended for "high-end production freaks".
