Surrealism Chapbook

The project was to pick a subject area, designer, or movement from the assigned readings in our textbook. I chose the Surrealism movement for my subject matter. The surrealist movement was founded in Paris by a small group of writers and artists who sought to channel the unconscious as a means to unlock the power of the imagination. The images I gathered for my chapbook were paintings from various surrealist painters, for that reason I decided to use canvas paper stock for my cover and for a couple of spreads in my book. The typeface I used is Franklin Gothic a sans-serif font. I wanted to use a clean, structured typeface to contrast the bizarre subject matter of the surrealist paintings. The graphic elements relate to the fact that surrealist art was about thinking outside the restrains of reality and rationality. The pattern I created is reflective of the woven threads of a dream catcher.
