Publication

"Investigating the world with observations and conditions of our time between objects, people, words and conversations. Journal."

The Garment District Journal is a biannual publication that features a collection of writing, photography, and artwork by a group of friends and family of Nepenthes America, Inc. The first issue includes an interview with Jeremy Lewis of Garmento, a new editorial series by JIMA, a look-back essay of New York’s Level Plane Records, an archive collection of Steve Terry of Wild Life Press, and more.

The Garment District is the center of the New York fashion scene since early 20th century. The dense concentration of fashion design and manufacturing business give the neighborhood its name. The publisher of the GDJ is based in the district and finds a unique mix of stories around them. This is the reason why STUDIO NEWWORK designed the GDJ in the form of a folding fabric swatch book. Loop stitch binding with french-fold cover was designed to fit in A4 standard binders. It helps readers organize multiple copies. By using an ethnic floral textile pattern on the cover with rich textured paper, it create a feel of fabric, as well as it gives a distinctive look of the publication.
