Iris Colomb's profile

Shadows Before The Drone, Vinyl Cover

This is a fictitious album linking Blues and Library Music.

The strong personalities of these two genres shaped the imaginary band’s story which  informed my design choices. Library Music is a peculiar genre: it is extremely divers, used in adverts, film, television and other media and inaccessible to the general public. It’s composers produce world famous music which often stays completely anonymous.

This was my story’s starting point: I imagined three Library composers coming together at the end of their careers to release their first personal blues album.

Playing with the visual language of both genres, my intention was to emphasize the reveal of GBW’s identity through a confrontation between an abstract pattern and an explosive figurative composition.
The use of a gatefold gave my vinyl cover a narrative sequence while Gotham, with it’s film connotations and American vernacular roots, helped me make an aesthetic link between Library Music and Blues.
