Demographic analysis, Aachen North, Germany, 2014.
A demographic research of Aachen Nord in support of the design project "Residential Catalyst". In this study, Aachen is compared with similar cities. Every aspect that has a mayor influence on the identity of the city, had to be examined. Think for example of the population density, the average income, the amount of households, nationality and the median age. By placing these numbers side by side an comprehensive picture was formed.
A couple of interesting aspects were revealed, especially the aspects that are vastly different from other cities. In Aachen Nord the average age is fairly low and there are many single households. This fact was the reason to draw a population pyramid and check the in- and outflow. It appeared that there are many youngsters that come to Aachen to study whom afterwards leave town to work elsewhere. Therefore they (graduate and starters) are the target group of the urban intervention.
