Every year Pushkar plays host to the Pushkar Fair which is well known for its Religious fervour ,festivities and the camel , Cattle fair that takes place along the sidelines of this annual gathering.
Pushkar is transformed into a sea of humanity, bustling with activity and a riot of colour, sights and smells. the marwari decorate the camels and horse and they make racing and races men with long mustaches. you meet the gypsy and the beautiful women with their dancing gypsy Kalbeliya the jugglers and snake charmers
The village people visit the fair dressed in all their beauty. in bright coloured turbans, well kept moustaches, ears pierced with gold and silver rings and tops , women wearing colourful Cholis and bright Coloured Odhnis on their heads. hands decorated with henna, Ears, necks, arms ,and feet laden with silver and gold jewellery.
The fair reaches a growing on the night of the full moon (Kartik Purnima), when pilgrims take a dip in the holy lake. At dusk, during the beautiful Deepdaan ceremony, hundreds of clay lamps on leaf boats are lit and set afloat on the sacred Pushkar lake.
