TALKIN' TRASH
CAMPAIGN
Talkin’ Trash is a composting awareness project dreamed up by AIGA Minnesota‘s Design For Good initiative using the process of design thinking. Partnering with the Walker, Talkin’ Trash debuted at two Minneapolis events this past summer: the Internet Cat Video Festival (attendance of roughly 5-7 thousand) and Music and Movies in the Park. We wanted to create not just a station for composting, but an engaging, interactive experience that people would be drawn to and remember. Providing composting at events that otherwise would not have offered it, as well as composting expertise for attendees, we informed our audience all in a fun, branded, cheeky way. With our trashy humor and clever design, we caught their attention in a playful, but also meaningful, way for composting.

Since Hennepin County is cleaning up their act requiring that an action plan be in place for universal composting by the end of 2014, the timing of this project couldn't have been more perfect. Collecting a combined total of 895 pounds of compost at our attended events, we’d say Minneapolis is ready for a change. It’s prime time to start Talkin’ Trash.
