An Audit and Wayfinding Strategy were first commissioned by Brighton & Hove City Council in May 2008. This formed the basis for development of a wide-ranging system.
Mapping was designed to reflect the feel of the city and its brand. Applied used non-OS data and together with GIS technology, created a master map – the foundation for generating a suite of maps used over a wide range of applications. Now delivered across a number of applications, with a ubiquitous mapping style to reinforce
recognition of, and thus trust in, the system.
The first application was the development of an on-street signage system, launched in 2009. Collaborating with Lacock Gullam to design the physical component of the signs, Applied also produced information design, and we were able to lead the complete delivery of the system through design, manufacture and installation.
A range of printed walking maps have been produced, including city guides, hotel maps and smaller event-based maps, as well as downloadable maps from the Visit Brighton website.
Applied also developed and released a free to download WalkBrighton iPhone application.
