Paintsville church hits $1M mark in gifts to Baptist missionaries

First Baptist Church of Paintsville has reached a major milestone by
topping $1 million in lifetime giving to missions.
The money was given through the Kentucky Baptist Convention's
Cooperative Program, which provides financial support to a wide range
of ministries around the world.
"This truly is a remarkable milestone that reflects the generosity of
the members of First Baptist and their dedication to share the gospel
in a lost and dying world," said KBC Executive Director Paul Chitwood.
"These funds have been used to spread the gospel not only in Kentucky,
but across the country and around the world."
Pastor Wayne Cornett, First Baptist Church of Paintsville, said, “This
achievement is an encouragement to the congregation and reminds us of
the longevity of Christ and the impact over that time not just in
Paintsville, but throughout the world. Basically 10 percent of our
offering goes to the Cooperative Program, so someone may send their
tithe or offering, which might not seem like a lot, but part of that
is going toward the ends of the world, and it seems a lot bigger over
time,” he said. Cornett also mentioned that his church members
participate in mission trips and they are currently praying to see
where the Lord leads them next.
First Baptist was recognized for its commitment to the Cooperative
Program at the KBC's annual meeting in Bowling Green on Nov. 11.
By giving to the Cooperative Program, Chitwood said, First Baptist
helps to support Southern Baptist missionaries who led tens of
thousands of people to Christ last year.
"Members of First Baptist help support more than 4,200 foreign
missionaries who planted more than 6,000 new churches in the past
year," Chitwood said. "They support our Baptist-affiliated colleges
and seminaries that are training our next generation of pastors. They
help to fund Crossings Ministries where more than 12,000 students
heard the gospel presented at summer camps this year and where more
than 800 professed faith in Christ. They're helping cover the cost of
Baptist campus missionaries who are proclaiming the gospel at all of
the state's colleges and universities. And that only begins to cover
the impact that First Baptist is having as a result of its financial
support.”
