Off Skipness Point

Off Skipness Point is an illustrated story based on one of my Grandpa’s many tales of life at sea when he was a 14 year old boy. The story I chose to illustrate is based on a tale he frequently told us, about one particularly stormy night in 1928 when he was working on a local herring steamer called The Carnation just off the west coast of Scotland.

To present the story, I’ve used a feature on Twitter called Collections. This feature doesn’t seem to have been used much for storytelling but I thought it would be a great way to construct a short story online. The three characters in the story - my grandpa, my great-grandpa and their shipmate Old Doddy - each have their own individual Twitter profiles, making it easy for me to add their voices to the story.

You can see the story on Twitter HERE and I’ve included a few screen grabs and illustrations from the project below.
