My work the 2014 iJusi magazine, neither of the works here were submitted.
The concept behind this piece was how the ANC would continue to exploit Madiba even after he was gone, remaking an actual poster that was run in 2014, including the typo, to compound the disrespect of such a poster.
Here I wanted to show the duality of Mandela’s life, the best way to do this was through a playing card, on the bottom we have the young brash revolutionary, illustrated by the AK-47 and the shield of Umkhonto we Sizwe, the K standing for what he was branded under the apartheid government, a k*****,
On the top we have the older president, his K stands for king, he now holds his famous fist pose and a joyful smile, his symbol now is the ANC wheel.
