The Niceties Poster
Poster design for WCLOC Theater Company's production of The Niceties. Written by Eleanor Burgess, the play centers on an explosive debate of race, history and reputation between a young black female student and her white professor over an assignment on the American Revolution.

The design of the poster is an exploration in the contrasts and division of the issues that arise in the play: black vs. white, right vs. wrong, good vs. bad and new vs. old. The broken title visually represents the rift between the two characters as well as alluding to moments in the play when each is able to cross over to see the other’s point-of-view.

With this design needing to work in a variety of media a simplistic approach was taken to give it stopping power in print and while scrolling on the screen. The title alone evokes enough curiosity for this to happen that a simple, bold design was all that was necessary.
