This project was created during an alternative world studio in collaboration with Tal Mayo and Karin Goren. The task was to invent a futuristic world with strict rules and inner logic. The world we predict for the future is a world with complex intelligent materials that are coded on the computer and “grow” using sunlight energy into the shape/texture/features coded by the computer. The world we know today is going through the process of dominating nature and creating a new ecosystem with synthetic forests, manmade cities, parks, animals and so on. Food, cloths, buildings, temporary structures and many more can simply grow with natural sunlight, eliminating the need for an economic system.
We created a new city block that will provide each flat with a few hours of sunlight each day, creating a sun oriented high density city. Each flat is vertical pointing towards the sun direction to achieve maximum light utilization. Education, free time activities and sports take greater place in this world and therefore each building complex uses the shady side of each complex for the new activities, connected to one another, underground parks and greater “park” like spaces for experimenting with the new materials.
The project was modeled mainly in Rhino using the T-Spline plug-in to create complex shapes.
The physical model was made of mixed digital Methodologies – laser cut for the ground, vacuum forming for the dwelling block and 3D printing for one dwelling block.

The flats in the new dwelling complex can shrink and expend to enable more sunlight during daytime. In the model bellow you can see the process of expanding (white).
The interior design of a flat is versatile and can modify during the day for different functionalities using fast changing materials.
