We wanted to show shopping in IKEA as a fun activity for the whole family and create an entertaining event in front of the IKEA stores to promote a new copy “Shopping is Whoopee” (“Zakupy to Frajda”). “Whoopee” was turned into a friendly monster living in happy homes. It was invisible, so people could only get a glimpse of it on a TV screen. A comfortable couch for the whole family was transformed in a virtual see-saw to play with Whoopee in augmented reality. Microsoft Kinect traced people sitting on the couch and estimated their “weight.” It was compared to the virtual weight of the “Whoopee monster” on a TV screen and used for calculating balance of the animated couch. People had to jump on the couch to propel the monster into the air. All guests received commemorative photos.
