The museum permanent exhibitions consisted only of traditional portraits and paintings of historical events. Common visitors could have a problem with understanding their meaning and historical context.
We created the mobile application “Cultourist” (Cultural Tourist) to provide seamless assistance during gallery visits. It enhanced the experience of taking pictures with mobile devices (allowed by the Museum) by unlocking additional content. The application recognized photographed paintings without additional physical markers or QR codes. It unlocked hi-res copies of the artworks, their detailed descriptions, trivia, multimedia and puzzle games. The application had no connection with social media. We wanted visitors to share the unlocked content in the real life.
