Like so many other artistically-inclined nerds this week, I felt compelled to do a Guardians of the Galaxy-related piece -- and Gamora fell right in my current need to draw ass-kicking women.

This piece was a fairly radical reinvention of process for me. Most of my work has tended to be rooted in traditional comic-book illustration process: pencil, ink, color. But since I work entirely digitally, there's no reason I have to follow that process...so this time, once I had the basics in, I skipped polishing the pencils and skipped the inks altogether, jumping right to "drawing with color." I don't feel totally comfortable calling it "painting," but I did use a lot of what I've learned about digital painting while working on it.
