A former educator, Nathan Duncan was head of school at Trails Carolina from 2012 to 2017. Since 2019, he has been a general manager with the outdoor apparel retailer Patagonia in California. Nathan Duncan is also an active member of the Association for Experiential Education (AEE).

Comprised of more than 2,000 members from over 25 countries, the AEE spearheads a wide range of initiatives that promote learning by doing. The official AEE podcast, It’s in the Experience, is a powerful educational resource that is available to the general public free of charge on many popular podcast platforms.

It’s in the Experience takes an “engaging and often humorous” conversational approach to discussing experiential education principles and methods with the professionals who use them. Over the course of roughly 30 to 45 minutes, host and AEE executive director Sherry Bagley poses questions to two guests with different professional perspectives. In August of 2023, Bagley sat down with Independent Schools Experiential Education Network executive director Shoshanna Sumka and Latinx community mental health researcher and advocate Esther Ayers.
