Fedrigoni Desk Calendar // YCN Award Winner 2013/14

The brief, as part of the 2013/14 YCN Student Awards, asked to design a 2015 desk calendar for Fedrigoni customers that promotes their Woodstock paper range.

Over the years, Fedrigoni have consistently been at the forefront of the paper industry, pioneering the techniques and processes that make paper the beautiful, versatile medium it is.

Woodstock is an uncoated pulp coloured collection of papers and boards. A unique paper range made from 80% recycled pre-consumer waste and 20% FSC certified Virgin fibre. Available in seven different weights with 15 wonderfully warm pastel colours and an additional mottled version, the naturalness and simplicity of wood is clearly identifiable with this range of paper.

In order to grab a presence on their customers' desks, the calendar needed to be genuinely useful, but also speak in a visual way which appeals to their high aesthetic standards. It should therefore be a creative, yet functional, piece which maintains awareness of the range throughout the year.
The Woodstock paper range is ‘natural in body and soul with genuine, essential colours.’ This calendar takes the natural wood aspect quite literally - the entire design is based on a tree trunk.

Each month has it’s own paper circle. These circles are made of the different colours and weights of the Woodstock paper range.
Each month, the user can clearly see the day of the week etched into the wooden base, and the corresponding date in the circular paper design.

The contact details and the Fedrigoni logo features clearly, and the design also relates to the famous Italian heritage of Fedrigoni papers - the name of each month is printed in Italian.
The calendar also reinforces the environmentally friendly nature of the Woodstock range, as the calendar itself has a secondary use.

At the end of each month, a perforated circular section in the centre of the paper can be removed and added to the keyring provided. This creates a swatch of the Woodstock range for the user to keep for future reference.

This swatch of papers of course features the contact details of the Fedrigoni sales team. It also names the colour of the paper used, and the weights it is available in.

It is a tool for the user to refer to in the future, and a handy reminder of the Fedrigoni range after the calendar has been used.
As this is a functional desk calendar, it also acts as a coaster for a much needed coffee fix. This is still useful once the calendar has been used.
